Discovering that Vertical Angles are Congruent
In this activity, students use the fact that a linear pair of angles are supplementary to discover that vertical angles are congruent.
I used the properties of Desmos graphs and coding in the computational layers to help students in this discovery. Student responses are displayed on the graph as they type, and are carried over into subsequent screens. If students give an incorrect answer, they are prompted to go back and change their response.
This activity introduces the concept of a scale factor to students. Students adjust the size of the orange triangle using the slider. They record the displayed scale factor, along with corresponding side lengths and the ratio of the lengths.
Again, I used the properties of Desmos graphs and coding in the computational layers to help students in their exploration of scale factors. Code the graph so that the slider would adjust the size of the orange triangle, and also change the displayed side lengths. I used coding in the computational layers to copy their observations from one slide to the next.
